Welcome to Inner Richmond
Inner Richmond is very different from its counterpart, Outer Richmond. While a huge chunk of the Richmond District is foggy and quiet, you’ll find that Inner Richmond has an energetic feel to it. Walking down the street one can find old-school eateries, multi-cultural grocery stores, indie bookstores, quaint boutiques, and even Russian markets. Prior to 1900s, The Richmond District was an uninhabited piece of land that earned the nickname “The Great Sand Waste” because of its hilly landscape, foggy atmosphere, and- you guessed it- sand. Thankfully, the district boomed when streetcars came to the area, and now it is one part quiet-residential-beach-town and one part lively-restaurant-filled-city.
